Up for bid is an original, antique, pre-owned
Defiance Check Protector by the Defiance Machine Company of Rochester NY.
Found at an estate sale. This example of an early 20th century anti-fraud technology has a plunger on top to stamp the check to prevent alteration of the amount written on the check. This model of the Defiance check protector holds patents from 1897 to 1904. This Check Protector is black metal with a dial to change the check amount.
In great shape for its age.
The dial still turns and the plunger still has a good spring.
It would need some inking on the roller to have the stamp readable.
Some general wear from use and storage, especially along the base and edges.
