LOCAL PICK UP ONLY In 03234 NHA friend of ours had a ''Curiosity Shop'', with many interesting items. He gave this to me when he moved away from our area.
This is a National Cash Register from Dayton Ohio. NCR who were the premier dash register company who I believe started producing the first mechanical push button cash registers in the late 1800's. This one is a model 736, serial # 2276773, which I believe to be from the 1920's.
The register works very well, all the dollars & cents keys work, and when pushed the draw opens with a clear ring, & when pushed back in, it locks up tight. The largest amount press key is . There are two key holes, one under the "hood", the other is on the left panel, the key that fits the hood hole turns , and you can feel it click into several positions...this key also fits easily into the left hand panel lock, but does not want to move, so i have not tried to force it.
The white marble front piece is in good condition, as is the top glass, but there are a couple of flaked off small bits of glass, but nothing bad, no cracks.
The "hood" does not have a lock in place, but there is a lock in the picture showing the keys, I 'm not sure if this is the original lock, but the front button has the same brown finish...i will try to fit it in (carefully). The is one other key that is marked NCR, the two prong one, but doesn’t seem to fit any where. The other keys are marked Woodbine Industries, and they seem not to be any thing to do with NCR.
The cash draw is in good shape, with the three bill weights, well made and still very sturdy.
The only flaw is that someone at some time painted the outside a brown color over the wood grain finish, though every thing under the hood is original wood grain finish.
Local pick up only.
