Our general rule of thumb is:
.5" sizing
For cakes that shrink LESS than 1/8" (or not at all,) AND you are NOT planning to cover with fondant
.25" sizing
For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/8"
OR your cakes do not shrink, but you are planning to cover with fondant
.00" sizing
For cakes that shrink MORE than 1/4"
